Wikipedia tells China's censors to bog off
View at the Inquirer
THE FOUNDER of Wikipedia has told the Chinese government to go forth and multiply over the issue of politically sensitive entries.
The Chinese government has blocked Wikipedia until it agrees to remove information that the censors do not like to see.
Jimmy Wales told the Observer it was 'all or nothing' for Wikipedia and challenged outfits like Google to do the same.
Wales told the rag that it would be difficult to work out why the online encyclopaedia would be banned as it apparently has internal rules about neutrality and deleting personal attacks and things like this.
He said the site is far from being a haven for dissidents or a protest site. So his view is that the block is in error and should be removed.
Wales added that censorship was 'antithetical to the philosophy of Wikipedia'.
This will be news to readers of the INQ who have found the Wikipedia censoring all references to the 'Everywhere Girl', and accusing its hacks of not being proper journalists. We should point out that the ‘Everywhere Girl is not banned in China.
