Power Rides on Ethernet Cables

View at ECN Asia
Electronic devices such as security cameras, building monitors, weather sensors and voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones take advantage of Ethernet connections, but these devices usually require a local power source.
The Power-over-Ethernet standard, officially IEEE 802.3af, specifies the use of conductors in Category-5 and Category-6 cable to distribute small amounts of power to remote equipment.
