Microsoft's April Security Patch May Cause More Damage Than It Fixes

Microsoft acknowledged that the security patch issued by the company on the 11th of April contained several compatibility flaws which affected computers with Hewlett-Packard software or the Kerio firewall installed, causing Windows to crash or strange dialog boxes to appear.

The MS06-015 patch was initially meant to fix several security flaws discovered in Windows Explorer. Instead, it causes even more damage to people who own HP printers, scanners, CD-DVD players/burners or digital cameras and have HP software installed on their computers.

Aside from that, customers who use Sunbelt Software's Kerio Personal Firewall have also reported bugs and crashes in Windows after installing Microsoft's patch.

Among the noticed problems are the impossibility to access or save files in Windows folders such as 'My Documents' and 'My Pictures', Office applications which may stop responding without an apparent cause, system crashes when trying to open files, hangs-ups after typing an address in Internet Explorer or when right-clicking on the desktop.
