New smart mobile phones 'scream' when stolen

: "A new system which makes mobile phones let out a high-pitched scream when they are stolen goes on the market in the UK today.

Makers believe that the system, which is also designed to also wipe data and deactivate handsets, could stamp out mobile phone theft in just two years.

The Remote XT system uses in-built software to link customers' mobile phones directly to a secure remote server which stores all their data from other phone numbers to text messages and e-mails.

If the owner is mugged or realises that their phone has been taken they can dial a 24-hour call centre and have it registered as stolen.

Tracking the phone's location using masts, the system immediately activates an alarm like a high-pitched scream which can only be stopped by removing the battery."
