Jim Zemlin Named Executive Director of New Linux Foundation

The Linux Foundation, the nonprofit consortium dedicated to fostering the next phase of growth for Linux, announced that Jim Zemlin will lead the organization as executive director. Zemlin is the former executive director of the Free Standards Group, which today announced a plan of merger with the Open Source Development Labs to form The Linux Foundation.
As executive director of The Linux Foundation, Zemlin will unify the world's leading Linux and open source organizations, businesses and communities to promote, protect and standardize Linux. The Linux Foundation has been formed to aggressively accelerate the growth of Linux by providing the services needed to compete effectively with closed platforms.
Prior to serving as executive director at the FSG, Zemlin served as vice president of marketing for Covalent Technologies, the leader in products and services for the Apache web server. Zemlin was also a member of the founding management team of Corio, a leading enterprise application service provider that had a successful initial public offering in July 2000.
