Mobile phones named among 'worst-ever' inventions

Weapons, swiftly followed by the mobile phone, have been voted as the worst inventions ever, according to a nationwide survey of over 4000 people, carried out for BBC Focus magazine.
Weapons of all kinds including guns, explosives, atomic bombs and biological weapons picked up 35% of the top ten vote.
Nuclear weapons accounted for 31% of this, even though they have only been used twice in warfare - in 1945 when the US dropped 'Little Boy' on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, followed three days later by 'Fat Man,' which fell on Nagasaki.
Perhaps more surprisingly though, the gadget that has revolutionised communication since it hit the market in 1985, and which is owned by almost three quarters of Britons, has picked up silver medal.
